The pentanuclearcluster [Au3Cu2(C2Ph)6]– was obtained from the reaction between [Au(C2Ph)}n] and a mixture of [Au(C2Ph)2]– and [Cu(C2Ph)}n]. Its structure is described. The same cluster has been synthesized in a stepwise manner starting with [Au(C2Ph)2]– through the binuclear complex [Au2(C2Ph)3]– and the trinuclearcluster [Au2Cu(C2Ph)4]–.
