The preparations of: (a) the iodides (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2C6H4Y)(SiMe2I) (Y = H,p- OMe,p-Me,p-Cl,m-CF3),via the corresponding hydrides; (b) the compounds (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2Ph)(SiMe2X) with X = F, O2CCF3, O2CCH3, OMe, N3, NCS and Cl; and (c) the iodide (p-MeC6H4)3CSiMe2I are described.
compounds: (i) C(SiMe2X)4 with X = H, F, Cl, Br, I, OMe, OEt, OCOMe and OCOCF3; (ii) (HMe2Si)4 − nC(SiMe2X)n with X = Cl, Br, I, n = 1–3; X = OH, n = 1 or 2; and X = OMe, n = 1; (iii) (Me3Si)4 − nC(SiMe2X)n with X = H, Cl, Br, n = 1–3; X = I, n = 2 or 3; and X = OCOMe, n = 2; (iv) (ClSiMe2)3SiMe2OH and (ClMe2Si)3C(SiMe2OCOMe). A range of X groups (X = OMe, OClO3, OSO2CF3, F, Cl, or I) have been shown to provide anchimeric assistance to the leaving of the Y groups (Y = OClO3, OSO2CF3, Cl, or I) in methanolysis of (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2X)(SiMe2Y) species; the effect is especially large for X = OMe.
