Experiments on chemical transport in the system Pt/AlI3/I2 (400 --> 600-degrees-C) yielded deposits of AlPt3 (GaPt3-type) in the high temperature zone. Reactions at a constant temperature (600-degrees-C) produced the intermetallic compounds Al3Pt13, AlPt3, AlPt2 (PbCl2-type) and Al3Pt5 (Ge3Rh5-type) depending on the ratio p(AlI2)/p(I2). Using thermodynamic data the equilibrium conditions for the existence of the different phases can be evaluated and the experimental results interpreted.
