    Formation of a Rhenium(VII) Phosphonio−Methylidyne Complex

    The rhenium(VII) phosphonio-methylidyne complex [Re((NBu)-Bu-t){C-P(NEt2)(3)]Cl-3] (3) is obtained via interaction of an imido ligand in [Re((NBU)-B-t)(2)Cl-3] (1) with the phosphorus ylide (Et2N)(3)P CH2. The isolation of all the intermediates and products of this reaction allows us to postulate a mechanism in which the amine, formally generated from the imido ligand, is trapped by the Lewis acid 1 with formation of [Re((NBU)-B-t)(3)Cl] (4) and (6). 3 and 6 have been [(Et2N)(3)P- CH3](+)[Re ((NBU)-B-t)(2)Cl-4](-) structurally characterized.
