Abstract Single crystals of barium metavanadate BaV2O6 have been grown in a hydrothermal system of VO(OH)2−Ba(NO3)2 at 280 °C. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, C222, a = 8.482 (1), b = 12.610 (1), c = 7.916 (2) A , Z = 6, being consistent with the first structure report by Launay and Thoret (C.R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. D, 277 (1973) 541–543) who, however, presented less reliable
