Oxadisilole-Fused Isobenzofurans. Synthesis and Characterization of Oxadisilole-Substituted Acenes

Mono- and bis-oxadisilole-fused isobenzofurans were first synthesized and isolated. A series of mono-, bis-, and tris-oxadisilole-substituted acenes were then synthesized by benzyne Diels-Alder reactions with the isobenzofurans. The photophysical, redox, and thermal properties of these new acenes were characterized.

Benzynes (7, 16) generated from benzobisoxadisilole and benzotrisoxadisilole were trapped as the furan cycloaddition adducts. Naphthoxadisilole and naphthobisoxadisilole were also synthesized.

The first synthesis of monooxadisilole- and bisoxadisilole-fused isoindoles and their [4+2]-cycloaddition reactions are reported. Deprotection of the cycloadducts leads to the formation of oxadisilole-fused benzoquinones. The structure of the bisoxadisilole-fused isoindole (2b) is confirmed by X-ray analysis.

Poly(dimethylsilyl)benzenes have been prepared by ‘in situ’ reactions of polybromobenzenes with magnesium and dimethylchlorosilane in tetrahydrofuran. The hydrolysis of these compounds yields benzo[c][1,2,5]oxadisiloles.

Palladium-catalyzed [2+2+2] cyclotrimerization reactions between benzyne and oxadisilole fused oxabicyclic alkenes afforded the exo-adducts. Deoxygenation with BF3 center dot OMe2 yielded mono- and bis-oxadisilole fused benzo[b]triphenylene. The photophysical properties of the oxadisilole fused benzo[b]triphenylenes were characterized.
