Reactions of alkynyllithium reagents with Fe3(CO)12 result in formation of Li[(mu-CO)(mu-RC = C)Fe2(CO)6], whose reaction with a sulfenyl chloride, R'SCl, gives (mu-RC = C)(mu-R'S)Fe2(CO)6 in moderate yield. The reaction of CH2 = C = C(OMe)Li with Fe3(CO)12, followed by addition of an acid chloride yields a ferrole complex.[GRAPHICS]The structure of the PhC(O)Cl-derived product (2a, R = Ph) was determined by X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the space group P2(1)/a with a = 12.444 (2) angstrom, b = 8.837 (2) angstrom, c = 18.429 (3) angstrom, beta = 105.77 (1)-degrees, and Z = 4. Final R1 = 0.050 and R2 = 0.058.
