Reaction of [Nb(η-C5H4R)2Cl2] with o-C6H4(CH2MgCl)2 in THF yields the metallocyclopentene [H2-o}] (Ia, R = Me3Si; Ib, R = H), as confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction for Ia (average = 72.4°); treatment of the isoleptic Zr compound (or Ti or Hf analogues) with Na[C10H8] in THF gives Na+[H2C6H4CH2M(C5H4R-η)2}-O (M = Ti, Zr, or Hf).
