  Synthesis, isolation and characterisation of sodium salts of amino-substituted cyclopentadienyl compounds was carried out for the first time: these can be made on a large scale and stored easily, thus facilitating easy manipulation and applications. Rhodium derivatives, including Rh(η5-C5H4)CH(CH2CH2)2NMe(coe)2 (coe = cyclo-octene), were synthesised, of which the crystal structure is reported.

  A number of mono-amino-functionalised ferrocenes, ferrocene salts and a mono-amino-functionalised ferrocenium salt have been synthesised and characterised. This represents a novel method of accessing these important classes of molecules. In the cases of some of the ferrocene salts, there are some interesting structural features in the solid state. These include N–H⋯O and N–H⋯F hydrogen bonds.

  -amino-functionalized vanadocene monochlorides represent the first examples synthesized and characterized. We report the catalytic behavior of some of the complexes toward butadiene and observe that amino-functionalized cyclopentadienyl vanadium phosphine chloride complexes behave much differently from their nonfunctionalized cyclopentadienyl derivatives.
