Abstract Two mononuclear oxalate copper(II) complexes [Cu(bpy)(C2O4)(H2O)]·H2O (1) and [Cu(bpy)(C2O4)(H2O)]·H2C2O4 (2) (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental and TG/DTA analyses, IR, UV–vis and EPR spectroscopy and by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study.
