Abstract The seven-coordinatecomplexes [MI 2 (CO) 3 -(NCMe) 2 ] (M = Mo or W) react with an equimolar quantity of RN:CHCH:NR (R = Bu 1 , Cy, Ph or p -MeOPh) in CH 2 Cl 2 at room temperature to afford good yields of the new 1,4-diaza-1,3-butadiene complexes [MI 2 (CO) 3 (RN:CHCH:NR)] ( 1 – 8 ) by the successive substitution of two acetonitrile ligands.
