    Reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography has been used to monitor the reactions of Ru3(CO)12 with 1,4-diazabutadiene (DAB) and of Ru2(CO)6 (DAB) with DAB. The kinetic data show that the formation of an intermediate in the former reaction is the rate determining step, which is first order in Ru3(CO)12 as well as in DAB. The reactivity depends strongly on the type of substituent on DAB.
