presented to show that photolysis of []̧5-C5H5M(CO)3(H) complexes (M = Mo, W) isolated at high dilution in C2H4 doped (5%) CH4 matrices at 12 K leads to the formation of the 16 electron species []̧5-C5H5M(CO)2(H) and the 18 electron species cis- and trans-[]̧5-C5H5-M(CO)2(C2H4)(H) and that further photolysis produces the 16 electron insertion species []̧5-C5H5M(CO)2(C2H5).
