    Reaction of the complex [W(CO)(NCMe)(Ph(2)P(CH2)PPh(2)}(eta(2)-MeC(2)Me)][BF4] with an equimolar quantity of NN {NN = 2,2'-bipyridyl, 1,10-phenanthroline, 5,6-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline, N,N'-cyclohexyldiazabutadiene, N,N'-(t)butyldiazabutadiene or N,N'-p-methoxyphenyldiazabutadiene} at room temperature in CH2Cl2 smoothly affords good yields of the new dicationic mixed ligand complexes [W(CO)(NN){Ph(2)P(CH2)PPh(2)}(eta(2)-MeC(2)Me)][BF4]I (1-6). The dicationic nature of these complexes was confirmed by reaction of [W(CO)(2,2'-bipy)(Ph(2)P(CH2)PPh(2))(eta(2)-MeC(2)Me)][BF4]I with two equivalents of Na[BPh(4)] in acetonitrile to give the bis(tetraphenylborate) complex [W(CO)(2,2'-bipy){Ph(2)P(CH2)PPh(2))(eta(2)-MeC(2)Me)][BPh(4)](2) (7). C-13 NMR spectroscopy indicates that the but-2-yne acts as a four-electron donor in these complexes.

    ratio afforded a mixture of the cationic monobut-2-yne complexes [W(CO)(S2CX)(dppm) (η2-MeC2Me)][BF4] and [WI2(CO)(dppm)(η2-MeC2Me)]. Variable temperature 1H NMR studies carried out on [W(CO)(S2CNEt2)(dppm)(η2-MeC2Me)]I showed the complex to be fluixonal.     barriers to but-2-yne rotation of a number of these complexes have been determined using variable temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy. The but-2-yne ligands in 1–11 show 13C NMR resonances above 200 ppm for the alkyne contact carbon chemical shifts, which suggests that the but-2-yne ligand is donating four electrons to the tungsten in these compounds.
