The organometallic dihydrogen phosphate [(eta(5)-C5H5)(2)Co][H2PO4]. 3H(2)O has been obtained by direct reaction of phosphoric acid with the organometallic hydroxide [(eta(5)-C5H5)(2)Co][OH] prepared in situ by oxidation of [(eta(5)-C5H5)(2)Co] in water. The role of negatively charged O-H ... O(-) and neutral O-H ... O hydrogen bonds between the H2PO4- anions and water molecules and that of charge-assisted C-Hdelta+ ... Odelta- hydrogen-bonds between organometallic and inorganic components has been investigated. The crystal structure of the chloride [(eta(6)-C6H5Me)(2)Cr][Cl] has also been used to analyse charge assisted C-Hdelta+ ... Cl- interactions. The results have been compared with data retrieved from the Cambridge Crystallographic Database. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
