Gibbs energies of formation of UPd4(s) have been determined by measuring the equilibrium CO(g) pressures over a UO2(s)+C(s)+ U0.15Pd0.85(s)+UPd4(s) mixture in the temperature range 1202 to 1306 K and are represented as: Delta(f)G(m)degrees(UPd4, s, T)+/-4.5 (kJ mol(-1)) = - 528.1 + 0.1223T (K) (1202 less than or equal to T (K) less than or equal to 1306). We have performed magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and specific heat measurements of UPd4+x (x = -0.25,0 and 0.2) and found that the magnetic properties of the system change drastically with x as well as annealing conditions: the antiferromagnetic ordering occurs at T(N) = 32 K for UPd4.2 but it almost disappears for UPd3.75.
