Synthesis and spectroscopic properties of heteropolynuclear cyano-bridged complexes

The heteropolynuclear cyano-bridged complexes [(C(5)H(5))Fe(CO)(CNMLn)(CNM'L'n)], {MLn = M'L'n = (C(5)H(5))Fe(CO)(2) or W(CO)(5); MLn = (C(5)H(5))Fe(CO)(2), M'L'n = W(CO)(5)} and mixed isocyanide complexes [(C(5)H(5))Fe(CO)(CNMLn)(CNR)], {MLn = W(CO)(5), R = CPh(3); MLn = (C(5)H(5))Fe(CO)(2), R = CH(3)} have been obtained by metallation or alkylation of the two terminal CN ligands of K[(C(5)H(5))Fe(CO)(CN)(2)]. Comparison of the bonding properties of the CNMLn and CNR ligands, based upon their relevant spectroscopic data, are discussed. Furthermore, two new isomeric heterobinuclear cyano-bridged complexes of the form [(C(5)H(5))(CO)(2)FeCNW(CO)(5)] and [(C(5)H(5))(CO)(2)FeNCW(CO)(5)] have been synthesized and fully characterized by spectroscopic techniques. Finally the reactions with nucleophiles of the last two compounds have been also examined. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
