  The new compounds [W-2(eta-C5H4Pri)(2)Cl-3(PR(3))(mu-Cl)(mu-C(2)Et(2))] (PR(3) = PMe(3) 2a, PMe(2)Ph 2b, PH(2)Ph 2c or PPh(2)H 2d). [W-2(eta-C5H4Pri)(2)Cl-3(PMe(3))(mu-Cl)] 3, [W-2(eta-C5H4Pri)(2)Cl-2(PMe3)(2)(mu-C(2)Et(2))] 4, [W-2(eta-C5H4Prl)(2)Cl-2(PMe(3))(mu-C(2)Et(2))] 5. [W-2(eta-C5H4Pri)(2)Cl-3(OEt)(mu-C(2)Et(2))] 6, [W-2(eta-C5H4Pri)(2)Cl-3(SMe)(mu-C(2)Et(2))] 7 and [W-2(eta-C5H4Pri)(2)Cl-2(mu-NR)(mu-C(2)Et(2))] (R = H 8a. Me 8b or Ph 8c) have been prepared. The crystal structures of compounds 2a and 8c have been determined. The compounds 8a-8c contain a three-centre, two-electron W-N-W'banana' pi bond.
