(1; Mes = 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl; tht = tetrahydrothiophene) with 1 equiv of NaCPh3, followed by treatment with N-methylimidazole gave a novel phosphide-pendant dichloride complex [η5-C5H4(CH2)2PMes-κP}ZrCl2(N-methylimidazole)2] (4) with liberation of HCPh3. The product (4) is the first dichloride terminal phosphide Zr complex characterized by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
