High diastereoselectivity (greater-than-or-equal-to 98/2) was obtained upon addition of the anion of t-butylformamidine (4) to chiral arene-chromium-tricarbonyl complexes 3a-c. After saponification and decomplexation (one-pot reaction) analogues of halostachin were obtained in high yield.
