Studies on the synthesis of novel 2,2′-bis(ferrocenyl)propane derivatives and their reactivity with metal carbonyl clusters

The reaction of new ferrocenylacetylene HC=C(C5H5FeC5H3)C(CH3)(2)Fc'C=CH (1; Fc'=C5H4FeC5H4) with Co-2(CO)(8) has been studied and the spectra and molecular structure of complexes [HC=C(C5H5FeC5H3)C(CH3)2Fc'C=CH][Co-2(CO)(6)](n) [n = 1, (4); n = 2, (5)] have been determined. Novel complex [FcC(CH3)(2)FcCH=C]FeCo2(CO)(9) (6; Fc = C5H5FeC5H4) has been synthesized by using a nuclear expanding reaction of complex [FcC(CH3)(2)Fc'=CH]Co-2(CO)(6) (3) with Fe-2(CO)(9) and the structural characterization of complex 6 was accomplished by elemental analysis, IR, H-1, C-13 NMR and MS. The electrochemical properties of the compounds with ferrocenylacetylene reveal that there is significant electronic communication between the ferrocenyl groups. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd.
