Platinum(II) and palladium(II) complexes containing two substituted alkynyl groups and two PTA or DAFTA ligands (PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane; DAPTA = 3,7-diacety1-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane) with the general formulas cis- or trans-M(PR3)(2)(C equivalent to CR)(2) (PR3 = PTA or DAPTA) were prepared by a ligand displacement reaction starting from M(C equivalent to CR)(2)(COD) precursors or by a metathesis reaction utilizing MCl2(PR3)(2) precursors in yields ranging from 68% to 89%. The substituted alkynyl groups employed were (Ca equivalent to CR) (R = p-tolyl, o-pyridyl, m-pyridyl, m-C6H4NH2, and CH2Ph). The new complexes were characterized by multinuclear NMR and IR spectroscopy, MS and elemental analysis. The molecular structures of the complexes, cis-Pt(PTA)(2)(C equivalent to C-p-to1)(2)(cis-1), trans-Pt(PTA)(2) (C equivalent to C-o-py)(2) (trans-3), and trans-Pd(PTA)(2)(C equivalent to C-o-py)(2) (trans-4) were confirmed by single crystal X-ray crystallography.
