The title compound, di-mu-chloro-bis [(eta(5)-trimethylsilylcyclopentadienyl)samarium(III)], [SmCl2(C8H13Si)(4)], which has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, is isostructural with its ytterbium analogue. The geometrical parameters of the lanthanide atoms are compared in the two compounds. Results and conclusions reported for [Yb(eta(5)-C5H4SiMe3)(2)(mu-Cl)](2) are entirely corroborated by the present structure analysis.
