The gadolinium(III) complex formed in a fluoride-dimethylformamide (DMF) electrolyte was studied by linear-sweep voltammetry and IR spectroscopy. The composition of the mixed-ligand complex formed was found to correspond to the component ratios Gd: DMF: F = 1: 3: 4. It has been found that the coordination link in the complex is via two oxygen atoms and one nitrogen atom of dimethylformamide and involves four fluoride ions.
