The title anion can be conveniently prepared from the cation [W2Cp2(mu-PCy2)(CO)(4)](+) via the iodo complex [W2Cp2(mu-I)(mu-PCy2)(CO)(2)], which is easily reduced with Na-amalgam. This anion reacts with different electrophiles both at the W and O sites to give unusual unsatured molecules such as the hydride [W2Cp2(H)(mu-PCy2)(CO)(2)], methoxycarbyne [W2Cp2(mu-COMe)(mu-PCy2)(mu-CO)], triphenylin [W2Cp2(mu-SnPh3)(mu-PCy2)(CO)(2)], and phosphinoxycarbyne [W2Cp2(mu-COP'Bu-2)(mu-PCy2)(mu-CO)] derivatives, all of them exhibiting novel structured features or unparalled compositions.
