    The thermal decomposition of homo- and heterometallic (eta(6)-arene)tricarbonylchromium complexes in dry air has been investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. The final decomposition products are characterized by X-ray powder diffractometry which confirms the formation of Cr2O3, PdO and Co2CrO4 (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

    The syntheses, structures, and reactivities of new (eta(6)-arene)tricarbonylchromium compounds bearing propargylamines are described. The reaction of (eta(6)-C6H5Cl)tricarbonylchromium with propargylamines affords YCH(R)C=CPh[Cr(CO)(3)] (1a, R = H, Y = NMe2; 1b, R = Me, Y = NMe2; 1c, R = H, Y = N(Me)(CH2Ph)) in good yield. The reaction of 1a,b with Li2PdCl4 generates the air-stable dimeric compounds (Pd-trans-C[(Ph)Cr(CO)(3)]=C(Cl)CH(R)NMe2(mu-Cl)}(2) (2a, R = H; 2b, R = Me), which can be converted to a monomeric and soluble species (Pd-trans-C[(Ph)Cr(Co)(3)]=C(Cl)CH(R)NMe2(Cl)(Py)} (3a, R = H; 8b, R = Me) after reaction with pyridine. Compounds 1a, 1c, and 3a were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.
