(10) was found to produce methyl and dimethyl derivatives of tricarbahexaborane (7) in which all deuterium present is bound to carbon, and minimal C-D cleavage occurred during carborane formation. All of the carborane products failed to undergo deuterium exchange with acetylene-d2 at 50C.
