    The reaction of a diastereomeric mixture of 1,2-bis(phenylchlorophosphino)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane (12) (1) with LiAlH4, followed by hydrolysis with H2O, gives a 4:1 mixture of rac- and meso-1,2-bis(phenylphosphino)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane(12) (2a, b) or 1-phenylphosphino-1,2-dicarba-closa-dodecaborane(12) (3), depending on the stoichiometry employed. A mixture of 2a, b reacts with sulfur in undecane at 190 degrees C or without solvent at 105-110 degrees C to give exclusively the cyclic anhydride of 1,2-bis(phenylthiophosphoryl)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaboranyl(12)-dithiodiphosphinic acid (6). 2, 3 and 6 were characterised spectroscopically (H-1, P-31, B-11, C-13 NMR, IR, MS) and X-ray structure determinations were carried out on the racemic isomers 2a and 6.     AbstractNew phosphorus‐containing, five‐membered P,P,P and P,N,P heterocycles were synthesized and fully characterized. The P,P,P heterocycles, 1,2,3‐triphospholanes, can be synthesized by two different facile pathways, whereas the P,N,P compound, a 1‐aza‐2,5‐diphospholane, can only be obtained with silylamine.

    The complex (R,R/S,S)-[PdCl21,2-(PPhCl)(2)C2B10H10}] (1) was prepared by the reaction of (R,R/S,S)-1,2-(PPhCl)(2)C2B10H10 with [(COD)PdCl2] (COD = cyclooctadiene) in CH2Cl2 solution and characterized by NMR spectroscopy (P-31, B-11, H-1) and X-ray structure determination (space group P-). Due to the crystallographic center of inversion, both enantiomeric isomers (R,R) and (S,S) are present in the unit cell. The Pd atom is coordinated in a square-planar fashion by two chloro ligands: and the 1,2-bis(phenylchlorophosphino)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane (12) (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
