Synthesis, Structures, and Magnetic Behavior of Two Binuclear Fe(III) Complexes

Two dinuclear iron(III) complexes, [Fe2L'(2)] 1 and [Fe2L ''(2)] 2 (L' and L '' are N-(1-ethanol)-N,N-bis(3-tert-butyl-5-methoxy-2-hydroxybenxyl)amine and N-(3-amino-1-propanol)-N, N-bis(3-tert-butyl-5-methoxy-2-hydroxybenxyl) amine ions, respectively), have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and magnetic measurements. Magnetic studies indicate there are antiferromagnetic coupling between the iron(III) centers for complexes 1 and 2. The values obtained for the coupling constants (J) are -17.51 for 1 and -9.84 cm(-1) for 2.
