The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and reactivity of [Rh(bpy)(C2H4)Cl] (1) (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) are reported. Compound 1 reacts with CH2O to afford the known carbonyl complex [Rh(bpy)(CO)Cl] (3). The reaction with CO2 leads to ethylene carboxylation and gives a propionic acid derivative. The reaction of [Rh(bpy)(C2H4)Cl] with NaBPh4 affords the new complex [(bpy) Rh(η6-PhBPh3)] (2), a
