An electron paramagnetic resonance study of tetra-n-butylammoniumtetrabromo-nitridorhenate(VI), [(n-C4H9)4N][ReNBr4]

Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopic investigations of tetra-n-butylammoniumtetrabromo-nitridorhenate (VI), [(n-C4H9)(4)N]-[ReNBr4], having a 5d(1) configuration, in liquid and frozen solution, are reported. In the polycrystalline samples very complex Re-185,Re-187 and Br-79,Br-81 hyperfine patterns are observed. Hyperfine and ligand hyperfine interactions are used to characterize the bonding properties in the molecular orbital of the unpaired electron and are compared with the results obtained from extended Huckel theory molecular orbital (EHT-MO) calculations.
