    Disclosed are a proton type &bgr; zeolite in which an acid site showing a desorption peak with a range of ±100° C. with a center of 330° C. exists in a spectrum measured by the ammonia temperature programmed desorption method (NH 3 -TPD), and an amount of a strong acid site showing a desorption peak of 500° C. or higher is controlled to 2.5 &mgr;mol/g or less, a method for preparing the same, and a process for preparing a phenol compound by oxidizing a benzene compound with a peroxide in the presence of the proton type &bgr; zeolite.

    A dihydric phenolic compound is produced, with a high selectivity thereof, by a plurality of oxidation reactors connected to each other in series, by (1) feeding a monohydric phenolic compound with a temperature of 30 to 100°C, a peroxide compound, a catalyst and optionally a ketone compound into a first reactor to oxidize the monohydric phenolic compound, and delivering a resultant reaction mixture containing the produced dihydric phenolic compound and non-reacted monohydric phenolic compound from the first reactor; (2) passing the reaction mixture through one or more reactors succeeding to the first reactor, to further oxidize the monohydric phenolic compound, while, in the steps (1) and (2), a portion of the peroxide compound is fed into the first reactor and the remaining portion of the peroxide compound is fed into at least one succeeding reactor; and (3) delivering a first reaction mixture produced in a rearend reactor and comprising the produced dihydric phenolic compound, the non-reacted monohydric phenolic compound and peroxide compound and the catalyst from the rearend reactor.

    Methyl propyl ketone peroxide formulations are claimed that can be safely handled at ambient temperature, are storage stable, and give fast curing rates of unsaturated polyester resins particularly when accelerated with a complex of two different metals. The claimed products are particularly suited for thin articles and coating such as suited for use in gel coat systems. The pure ketone peroxides consist of more than 60% by weight of type-4 methyl propyl ketone peroxide and used as formulations containing sufficient amount of a non-aqueous phlegmatizer.

    A thermoplastic elastomer composition obtained by dynamically heat-treating a mixture containing a thermoplastic resin (A) having a melting point of not less than 200°C and an elastomer (B) having a constitutional unit derived from an ester group-containing monomer in the presence of, as a crosslinking agent (C), a polymer (C-1) comprising a (meth)acrylate (c-1) unit having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 1,000 to 30,000 and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 1.0 to 4.0 and/or a polymer (C-2) which comprises 5 to 35 mass% of the (meth)acrylate (c-1) unit and 65 to 95 mass% of an aromatic vinyl monomer (c-2) unit, the polymer (C-2) having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 1,000 to 30,000 and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 1.0 to 4.0. The composition has a good sea-island structure as a whole and excellent cold resistance, and is useful as a substitute for acrylic rubbers.
