Various adducts of mercuric salts with [2]ferrocenophane and 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl[2]ferrocenophane, were prepared by treating HgX2 (X=Cl−, I−, CN−) with the [2]ferrocenophane derivatives in ether. The adducts were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy and other physicochemical measurements. Anomalously large quad-rupole splitting values of the adducts (about 3.10–3.30 mm s−1 at 78 K) suggest the presence of a strong direct interaction between the Fe and Hg atoms.
