  (OC)5ReFBF3 (I) is obtained by abstraction of H- or CH3- from (OC)5ReH or (OC)5ReCH3, respectively, using Ph3CBF4. Treatment of I with water vapour yields the trifluorohydroxoborato complex (OC)5ReOHBF3 (III). The reaction of I with σ and π-donors L proceeds to give the salts [(OC)5ReL]+ BF4- (L  (CH3)2CO, CH3CN, CO, C2H4, propene, pentene-1) under mild conditions. [(OC)5ReC2H4]+ BF4- and Na+ [Re(OC)5]-

  (OC)5ReFBF3 or [(OC)5ReOH2]+BF4- react with trimethylmethoxysilane, hydrogen phosphate, sulphate, dichromate and anions of heteropolyacids to give the neutral complexes (OC)5ReO(Me)BF3, (OC)5ReOPO(OH)2, (OC)5ReO(O)2CrOCr(O)2ORe(CO)5, (OC)5ReO(O)S(O)ORe(CO)5, [(OC)5Re]3PM12O40 (M = Mo, W) and [(OC)5Re]4SiW12O40, respectively. From aqueous solution [(OC)5ReOH2]+ is adsorbed on the surface of gamma-Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and in zeolites. [(OC)5Re]Pt(CN)4 on a HY-zeolite after reduction with H-2 proved to be an efficient catalyst for hydrogenation of benzene.
