Reactions of dithioacetal E(CH2CH2S)2CHR (E = O, S, R = Ph, C6F5) and O(C6H4S)2CHPh with either Ru(cod)(cot) or Ru(PPh3)3(H)2 are used to prepare the Ru-alkylidene complexes E(CH2CH2S)2RuCHPh(L), O(C6H4S)2RuCHPh(L) (L = PCy3, SIMes) in high yields.

The bis(dihydrogen) complexRuH2(H2)2(PCy3)2 (1) reacts with the disilanes (R2SiH)2X to produce the dihydride complexes [RuH2(η2-HSiR2)2X}(PCy3)2] (with R = Me and X = O (2a), C6H4 (3), (CH2)2 (4), (CH2)3 (5), OSiMe2O (6)) and R = Ph, X = O (2b)). A one-step and room temperature synthesis toward metallic and metal oxide nanoparticles soluble both in water and organic solvent is reported. This was achieved using amino-PEG oligomers that make it possible to control the size and shape of the nanoparticles.
