Synthesis and Characterization of Palladium Dichloride Complexes of N-Alkylphenothiazines
摘要:
Mononuclear palladium(ll) chloride - phenothiazine complexes have been prepared. The products were characterized by their elemental analyses, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, and spectroscopic data. The molecular formulas of the new complexes were found to be: [Pd(LH)Cl-3].xH(2)O where L = chlorpromazine (CP) and x = 1, L = promethazine (PM) or ethopropazine (EP) and x = 0; and [Pd(TFH2)Cl-4] .H2O where TF = trifluoperazine. All complexes, except the CP complex, are diamagnetic species. Tentative structures have been proposed.

Potassium tetrachloropalladate reacts with promethazinehydrochloride to give a unique complex in which the protonated promethazine is sulphur-bonded to palladium and takes up a ‘scorpion’ conformation, thereby facilitating electrostatic interaction between the quaternary nitrogen on the side chain and the PdCl3 unit.
