Reaction of carboranyl anion or its thiolate derivative with a fully-substituted Cp*-based group 9 (Ir, Rh) metal complex affords respectively a CâC bond formation complex and a salt metathesis product. This example represents the first nucleophilic addition attempt in the area of M-Cp* chemistry.
