The vinylidene complex trans-[RhCl(CCHCCCPh2OSiMe3)(PiPr3)2] (5), prepared from [RhCl(PiPr3)2]2 (1) and HCCCCCPh2OSiMe3 (2), is in equilibrium with the pentatetraenediyl isomer trans-[RhCl(CCCCHCPh2OSiMe3)(PiPr3)2] (6) in benzene solution. The reaction of the diynyl(hydrido) compound [RhH(Cl)(CCCCCPh2OSiMe3)(PiPr3)2(py)] (7) with triflic acid in THF/water afforded the functionalized rhodium(I) vinylidene trans-[RhCl(CCHC(O)CHCPh2)(PiPr3)2] (9), which was also obtained from the metallacumulene trans-[RhCl(CCCCCPh2)(PiPr3)2] (8) under analogous conditions.
