Complexes of formula (X)Os3(CO)12Os(CO)3(L)(X) and (X)(L)(OC)3OsOs3(CO)12Os(CO)3(L)(X) (L = CNBut; X = Cl, Br, I) have been prepared by the addition of Os(CO)4(L) to Os3(CO)12(X)2 in solution at 60 °C. The structure of Os5(CO)18(CNBut)2(Cl)2 reveals it has an almost linearchain of five Os atoms.
