The potential of photochemistry in cluster synthesis has been demonstrated by the high-yield preparation of (μ-H)(μ-X)Ru3(CO)10 X  Cl (2a), Br (2b), I (2c)} from Ru3(CO)12 (1) and the molecular structure of (μ-H)(μCl)Ru3(CO)10 (2a) determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
