  Reaction of 1 equiv. of LiCp(s) [Cp(s) = C(5)Me(4)(SiMe(2)Bu(t))] with YbI2 affords the novel half-sandwich polyatomic species [{Yb-6(eta-Cp(s))(6)I-8}{Li(thf)(4)}(2)] 1; the molecular structures and solid- and solution-state Yb-171 NMR data for 1 and, for comparison, the dimeric half sandwich derivatives [{Yb(eta-C(5)Me(5))(mu-I)L(n)}(2)](L = thf, n = 2, 2; L = dme, n = 1,3) are presented.
