The sequential substitution of two Fe(CO)3 groups in [(μ-H)2Fe3(μ3-Se) (CO)9] with isolobal fragments CpW(CO)2 (the first stage) and CpMo(CO)2 (the second stage) has been shown to result in the title heterotrimetal cluster [FeMoW(μ3-Se) (CO)7Cp2]. Its structure and the structure of its [FeW2(μ3-Se) (CO)7Cp2] analog obtained previously have been determined by X-ray analysis.

The reaction of [(μ-H)2Fe3(μ3-Se)(CO9] with CpW(CO)3]2 (Cp= η5-C5) has been reinvestigated. In addition to tetrahedral heterometal clusters described previouslt the minor product [Fe2W2(μ3-Se)2(μ3-CO)(μ-CO)(CO)5CP2] has been isolated. Its crystal and molecularstructure has been determined by X-ray methods.
