Synthesis and structural characterization of tetranuclear cubane-like cadmium complex containing di-2-pyridyl ketone ligands

Reaction of Cd(NO3)(2) center dot 4H(2)O and NH4SCN with dpk (dpk = di-2-pyridyl ketone) in CH3OH afforded a novel cubane-like polynuclear complex [Cd(dpk-OMe)(NCS)](4), 1, [dpk-OMe = anion of the hydroxyl methoxy-di(2-pyridyl)methane] has been characterized by X-ray structural analysis. The unprecedented monoanion ligand dpk-OMe [dpk-OMe = anion of the hydroxyl methoxy-di(2-pyridyl)methane] was prepared by dpk in methanolic solution. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
