A ferrocenyl-substituted diphosphene has been synthesized and characterized, which seems to represent a borderline case concerning the dimerization of such species. Thus, the tetraphosphetane formed by dimerization readily undergoes cycloreversion to the initial diphosphene upon heating in xylene solution.
