Binuclear N6 22-membered macrocyclic transition metal complexes: synthesis and characterization

A novel family of tetraiminehexaazamacrocyclic complexes [M(2)LX(4)] (M = Co-II, Ni-II and Zn-II) and [Cu(2)LX(2)](2+) (X = Cl or NO3) has been prepared by the condensation reaction of diethylenetriamine with phthalaldehyde in the presence of metal ions as templates in methanol medium. The complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR, EPR and UV-vis spectroscopic studies, as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility data. All the complexes except that of copper, which is square planar, have octahedral structures.
