  Gramine (C(8)H(5)NHCH(2)NMe(2)) 4 undergoes regioselective metallation at C-2 by [Pt(DMSO)(2)Cl-2] to form the first structurally characterised indole-fused platinacycle sigma-[Pt(C(8)H(4)NHCH(2)NMe(2))(DMSO)Cl] 1; tryptamine (C8H5NHCH2CH2NH2) 5 and (S)-tryptophan methyl ester C8H5NHCH2CH(NH2)CO(2)Me 6 give respectively sigma-[Pt(C8H4NHCH2CH2NH2)(DMSO)Cl] 2 and sigma-[Pt((S)C8H4NHCH2CH(NH2))-CO(2)Me)(DMSO)Cl] 3.
