Synthesis and structure of titanium and zirconium disilane-1,2-diolates

The synthesis and structure of zirconium and titanium complexes containing the chelating disilane-1,2-diolate ligand rac-[Me(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)(2-) (1)-2H are reported. The compounds (E)-[Me(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)TiCl2 (3a) and (E)-[Me(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)Zr-Cl2 center dot THF (3b) were prepared by the reactions of MCl4 (M=Ti, Zr) with {(E)-[Me(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)}(2)Ti(2a) and {(E)-[Me(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)Zr center dot HNEt2 (2b), which are derived from the reaction of 1 with Zr(NEt2)(4) and Ti(OEt2)(4), respectively. Upon treatment with 3 equiv. of TiCl4, 2a undergoes a ring opening reaction to yield the dinuclear complexes (E)-[Me(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)Ti2Cl6 (4) and (E)-[MC(Me3Si)(3)SiSiO](2)Ti2OCl4 (5). The solid state structures of 2a, 5 and TiCl4-2THF-d(8) have been determined by X-ray crystallography. (c) 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
