Complexes of cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) with the salicylaldazine prepared by condensation of salicylaldehyde and hydrazine monohydrate (2:1) have been synthesized and were characterized by elemental and thermogravimetic (TGA) analyses, UV-Visible, IR, Raman, mass and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Salicylaldazine acts as a terdentate ligand by coordination via the nitrogen atoms of azomethine groups (CH=N-) and oxygen atoms of the phenolic hydroxy groups. The complexes are dimers of the general formula [ML(H2O](2). nH(2)O, M = Cu(II), Ni(II) or Co(II).
