O-2-treatment of the labile cationic aquo-Ru(II) complexes, Tp(iPr2)(L)(n)Ru(OH2)(3-n)(OTf)(THF)(x) [L = bipy (1d), py (2), THF (3)], results in oxidation of the metal center to give the mononuclear hydroxo-Ru(III) complexes, [Tp(iPr2) (bipy)Ru-III (OH)](OTf) (4), Tp(iPr2) (py)Ru-III (OH)(OH2)(OTf)(THF)(2) (5), and the dinuclear Ru(II)-Ru(III) and Ru(III)-Ru(III) mixed aquo-hydroxo complexes bridged by the Ru-O...H...O-Ru hydrogen-bonding interactions, Tp(iPr2) Ru-II(OH)(2)(OH2)(4)(OTf)Ru(III)Tp(iPr2) (6) and (Tp(ipr2)Ru)(2)(OH)(2)(OH2)(4)(OTf)(2) (7).
