Alternatively, Co2Fe2S2(CO)11 reacted photochemically with [C5H5Mo(CO)3]2 to give the known, chiral cluster (C5H5Mo)CoFeS(CO)8. While Fe2(Te2)(CO)6 thermally dimerized to Fe4Te4(CO)12, Fe2(S2)(CO)6 gave the analogous dimer only upon photolysis. heterometallic cluster (Ph3P)2Pt(μ3-S)2Fe2(CO)6 (II) has been synthesized by transmetallation of S2 Fe3(CO)9 under the action of (Ph3P)2PtCl2. X-ray studies indicate that II contains a short FeFe bond (mean 2.496(7) Å for 4 independent molecules), but that there are no bonds between Fe and Pt. Reactions of Fe3E2(CO)9 (E = S, Se) with M(PPh3)4 (M = Ni, Pd, Pt), at room temperature, show a marked contrast with the analogous reaction of Fe3Te2(CO)9.
